Shutter Island

Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are US marshals who are called to Shutter Island, a maximum security prison and asylum for the criminally insane. A woman convicted of murdering her three children has gone missing, and as they continue to investigate they find the doctors, guards, and other staff to be not entirely forthcoming. It appears that there's something going on that they don't want the marshals to find out.

I was pretty disappointed with this movie. I found the ending to be very obvious, and it confirmed the suspicion that I first had after hearing the premise. There were also so many not-so-subtle clues along the way pointing at it, that I felt kind of annoyed that it took so long for it to finally arrive. It's not an original ending, and it's easy to draw parallels between it and several other movies. After thinking about it some more today, I also found myself disappointed with the number of inconsistencies and things that didn't make sense within the context of the ending. I do think that the acting was good, and the cast is impressive, but ultimately it didn't live up to my already-lowered expectations.
